Water Line Flushing
The City of Miramar Utilities Department will begin its Annual Water Line Flushing Program on May 1, 2023. Flushing will continue across the city through June 15, 2023. The water distribution system line flushing may continue across the city for one additional week to achieve optimal system maintenance through June 22, 2023, if necessary.
The Annual Flushing Program is used to help rid the water distribution pipelines of any accumulated mineral sediments. The hydrant flushing may temporarily cause cloudy or discolored water, which should settle and clear in a few hours after flushing. The cloudiness is due to natural mineral sediments in the pipelines, and it is not harmful or hazardous.
Typically flushing will take place in the evening hours between 9:00 pm and 2:00 am when the demand for water is low, however, in order to expedite completion of the program, some remote locations within the service area will be flushed during the daytime.
During the water line flushing period, the Water Treatment Plants will not change its method of disinfection, however, residents may notice a change in the taste and odor of the water during this time.
