Continuing Education & Training
The Miramar Police In-Service Training program is provided to all sworn personnel and select non-sworn support personnel. The sworn officers are provided with 40 hours of training each year. This training is designed to meet the needs of the agency and required standards set forth by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Classes include:
- Scenario-based Training
- CPR re-certification
- Patrol Tactics
- Legal Updates
- Pursuit/Non-Pursuit Driving
- Biased Based Policing
- Human Diversity
- Less than Lethal Options
- Driving Under the Influence Investigation
- Crash Investigation
- Use of Force Standards
This training is conducted in-house by qualified instructors.
Criminal Justice Academy
Officers are also provided additional training opportunities at the local Criminal Justice Academy attending selected classes in special areas of interest. Some examples are:
- Radar Operator
- Traffic Homicide
- Line Supervision
- Special Tactical Problems
- Supervisory classes
- Personal wellness and skills development
The academy works in conjunction with FDLE to provide the most current information and classes.
