The Criminal Investigations Division consists of two units, the Property Crimes and Persons Crimes Units.

The Property Crimes Unit investigates property and miscellaneous crimes to include burglary, theft, auto theft, vandalism, harassing calls, arson, and fraud. This unit works in conjunction with the Road Patrol Division and P.R.I.M.E. Unit to investigate and arrest offenders.

The Persons Crimes Unit consists of the homicide, robbery, juvenile and sex crimes, and domestic violence sections. The juvenile and sex crimes section investigates crimes involving child and elderly abuse or neglect, sex-related offenses, and all missing persons cases. Along with community resource officers, detectives from this section also monitor all sexual offenders who reside within the city’s jurisdiction. The domestic violence section advises and assists victims of domestic crimes in recovering from abuse and taking the necessary steps to prevent further abuse. The unit also assists in finding temporary shelter for children and notifying the next-of-kin of the deceased.

Also, detectives of the Criminal Investigations Division participate as members of the United States Marshals and Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Fugitive Task Forces.
