Community Resource Unit
About the Unit
The Miramar Police Department believes the community policing philosophy is an integral part of modern policing. A key element of this philosophy is the partnership between law enforcement and the community. Road patrol officers are assigned to certain areas (or zones) within the city on a regular basis. Each zone also has an assigned Community Resource Officer (CRO). Having officers routinely assigned to the same geographic area allows them to build strong partnerships with the residents and business owners.
Duties & Responsibilities
In addition to their regular patrol duties, officers respond to crime trends determined through crime analysis and the requests of residents. CROs attend many homeowners’ association meetings and diligently monitor and ensure compliance from sexual offenders who reside within the city’s boundaries. CROs also participate in monthly Information Based Policing meetings to share information with specialized units and to plan and implement proactive strategies to reduce crime.
Through this community policing partnership, the citizens of Miramar and officers are working together to build a safer neighborhood.
