Goal

Our goal is to provide the highest level of training available in order promote the department's core values to selflessly serve our community with courage, compassion and charity; along with a dedication to a culture of safety

Types of Training

Miramar firefighters and paramedics undergo constant training to maintain a high degree of expertise. These personnel train on and have access to the latest technology and equipment. The Training Division provides a rich training environment for all levels from the entry-level firefighter/paramedic through to advanced training for:

  • Driver-Engineers
  • Lieutenants
  • Captains
  • Battalion Chiefs
  • Division Chiefs
  • Deputy Chiefs
  • Fire-Rescue Chief

Certifications

All division personnel are trained and licensed as paramedics and hold Fire Service Instructor Certificates of with the State of Florida. The division conducts training and oversees recertification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), as well as advanced techniques in firefighter training and survival. The division is responsible for conducting a recruit training program to prepare newly hired firefighters for a future with the Miramar Fire-Rescue Department.

Accreditation

Additionally, the division oversees the department's efforts to seek accreditation through the Commission for Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and manages grant opportunities. Advanced training includes hazardous materials (HazMat) awareness, National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command, vehicle extrication, rope and confined space rescue. The department encourages all nationally accepted levels of training for fire and rescue personnel.
